Welcome to the inaugural season of the Eastern Manitoba Female Hockey League (EMFHL). This league was developed through a partnership of the Interlake, Central Plains, Pembina Valley and Eastman regions with the goal of building the grassroots female hockey programs in Manitoba.

Early in 2021, the female directors from the four regions, Amanda Wall, Kyle Willis, Rod Steivstrup and Kristin Fontaine, agreed there were struggles with supporting female hockey programs contained within their respective regions. Female teams were forced to play out of Hockey Winnipeg, left to schedule exhibition games independently, or had nowhere to play except provincials. With the support from Hockey Manitoba, Hockey Winnipeg and their regional boards, they decided to work together to build the EMFHL.

EMFHL, like the other leagues under Hockey Manitoba’s umbrella, will be operated by a Board of Directors comprised of a Director, Vice Director, Secretary, Treasurer and four Age Convenors represented by each region. Addie Miles-Abbott will act as consultant for coach mentorship and skills development. The governing of the league will be under the direction of the Board of Directors in accordance with the Constitution and By-Laws.

The EMFHL will host leagues for the U9-U15 age categories, each divided into two divisions: dual roster and single roster. Each division will provide league game play, playoffs and provincials. Separating the age groups into divisions offers competitive games in a female environment, opportunity for development, growth of players, all while allowing every female hockey player to experience female hockey at its best.
